2011 Mission

The HART Team will arrive in Ghana on November 11, 2011 to carry out its medical/surgical and outreach mission. HART will orchestrate a medical team of 14 doctors (6 surgeons & 8 primary care practioners), 4 dieticians and a host of essential medical personnel in undertaking what the locals fondly call “surgery camp!” It will cover a large area in the Brong-Ahafo Region know as the South Asunafo District. There we will man 3 OR’s and visit 20 communities as we collaborate with indigenous medical personnel to address their health care needs. Locally will be under the direction of the honorable George Boakye, who has made possible this great undertaking. In fact, one of our directors, Jane Thorpe, has been made by the local Chief a Queen Mother - an great honor and privilege not commonly given to someone who is not part of the community. It is a major project and will provide much relief. Containers, planned to be shipped this April, will be filled with medical supplies (both donated and purchased) that will outfit and supply our medical efforts this trip to Ghana.

Additionally, each year HART joins efforts with the local community to sponsor and direct a dual 5k/10k race. The US 5k will be held at Suncrest Peak in Draper, Utah on October 8th and the Ghanaian race in Sancore City on November 19th, both at 9 am. This has been a fun way to build relationships here and there and to raise precious dollars to meet the medical needs of their community!
